Progress

I have recently started taking notes...more of them mental than written but nevertheless good ones.
I started contacting people in whom I feel would be good people to ask questions of my topic to.
Only until recently have I realized how deep of a subject matter this tipic of mine is. When I first started with the idea, I thought I would include a little info on the evolution and journey of mankind and how they came to be "semites" and then compare their similiarities to the the huge contrast of religion and the issues that are currently seen in the Middle East. But all the resources I have gathered seem to all go into very detailed examples of past occurences, most of them violent, regarding Muslims and Jews-whether coincidal or separate, they are deep subject matter.

I'M AFRICAN!! OH SNAP!!

after watcvhing the Journey of Man last night I figured out I, am indeed, AFRICAN!!!!

Since mankind started in Africa, they migrated out for reasons I currently don't want to explain out of sheer super intricate details and became the rest of the world's population by overcomming impossible odds. I was told by this production that modern man is only about 2000 generations from their human origins in Africa. So without any further needed explaination, I AM AFRICAN

Essential and Foundation questions

Essential: What deeply rooted human history precedes and thus, is the cause for the modern day Israeli conflict.

Foundations:
1. where did humans migrate to outside of ancient Africa?
2. When did arabic/Middle Eastern people start to develop?
3. Why were the Jews given the boot and forced to leave their homeland?
4. Who was responsible for this?
5. Where did they go?
6. What happened because of this?
7. When did anti-semitic ideas really come into play in Europe?
8. What did WWII do for the Jews?
9. How was Israel formed?
10. What has happened since then?

Glossary of Terms (some of these are pretty funny)

ahl al-kitab- "People of the Book," the term referring Jews and Christians as peoples tolerated by Islam.

Arab- any member of the Semitic speaking group of people whose cultural, linguistic, and in some cases, ancestral origins trace back to the tribes of the Arabian Peninsula

Ashkenazi- A type of Jew who is genetically “German” in history

Dar al-Islam- "The Household of Submission." The territories governed by Muslims under the shari'a; the term's opposite is Dar al-Harb "The Household of War," meaning those lands that lack the security and guidance of God's law.

Hesperophobia- Fear of the West

Jerusalem- The main city in ancient Palestine for Jews, Christians and Muslims. The Temple of David was located there, Jesus was crucified and resurrected there, and Mohammad ascended to heaven (his miraj) there. For all three religions, hence, Jerusalem is a "holy city."

Mizrahi- A type of Jew who is genetically “Middle-Eastern” and thus original in their history

Palestine- The area of major Jewish history which into modern times has coincided with arab history and created conflicts.

Qur’an- "Recite." Name given to the collection of Islamic scriptures, consisting of 114 suras (sections), believed to have been revealed verbatim orally to Mohammad over a period of time through the angel Gabriel.

Zionism- The shared thought of Jews to one day return to their homeland of Israel

New Poster

This time I've been told to focus on ethnic tensions...

this will OBVIOUSLY be better than the last brilliant idea of mine

(..whatever)

this time I'm keeping the Jounrey of man idea and focusing on an area where ethnic histories colide, hmm, lets think, where's a good place for that?

PALESTINE!!!!

So I will probably follow 'man' on his journey and explain how the whole Jewish history thing happened up until today and the existence of the Nation of Israel.

Rejected

^yup, that's what happened to my letter and topic on account that what usually isn't understood is feared (or something like that :P).
Today I just talked to Mrs. Fossum about my topic and how it will need some revision.

Photoshoppin' without a laptop

Today we continued the creation of our photoshop projects to give a basic, visual explaination of our intentions on our graduation project.

My poster recieved much great response from the black and Jewish groups of our school

please don't be so quick to judge

my project is simply to explain the Nordic theory and then to dismiss it as false as a conclusion.

5/3

Today we had to research three wehsites in which we each believe would benefit the progress of our graduation project. My three mainly deal with the earliest humans and their journey to places in the world frm their starting point, Africa.

What Have you heard about the graduation project at City High?
-heh, heard it sucks, but it's a requirement

Do you know any 12th grade students who have already graduated that completed their projects?
-well now they would be in 12th grade anymore now would they??? hmmm!

What were their experiences?
-ugh, fine...I'll play along, yeah, they struggled with them I guess but in the end they graduate an entire month earlier than the rest of City High gets out for 'summer break' - SO IT WAS ALL WORTH IT

What are some interests you have that you think you might like to structure a project around?
-Ms. Reese knows my keene interests, why don't you ask her? but for those of you unwilling, I enjoy researching history and various linguistics, so perhaps my project will focus on a combination of these.

What are some of the concerns that you have about the graduation project?
-My main concern is that my laptop will burn and break in the middle of the project, as it always has these past three years when I'm in the middle of a huge project.
